A New Godsway Walkthrough

With the Dulled Godbane Blade in hand we now need to find a way to restore it to its full power. Rothais recommends consulting the Battahli researchers, so we make our way back to the Forbidden Magick Research Lab in Bakbattahl.

Follow the quest marker, which will take us to Ambrosius’s workshop. If you haven’t been here before, be sure to grab the items lying around his room: a Wakestone Shard, Farseer’s Circlet, and Prescribed Tranquility, as well as Seeker’s Token on the platform with the dead dragon outside his office.

When you are done looting speak to Ambrosius and show him the Dulled Godsbane Blade. He is impressed, but says it will require a lot of Wyrmslife Crystals (WLC) to repair, 15 to be precise. There are nine drake locations in total, but you'll likely have enough Wyrmslife Crystals after defeating just two drakes. Ambrosius will request you bring him the crystals, reward you 25,000 gold, and send you on your way.

Speaking to Ambrosius here also causes a new set of icons to appear on your map. These red markers kind of look like a dragon wing, and note where you will find a Vocation Maister. Use this info to track down any remaining vocations you might be missing!

If you have done a lot of exploring and dragon slaying there is a chance you could already have 15 WLC on hand to complete this stage of the quest, but if you do not the game has provided an easy way to get a bunch at once.

Start by returning to the oracle at the Reverent Shrine. Ask her “where is the dragon I seek?” and she will tell you to visit the Dragonsbreath Tower in southwest Battahl where a lesser drake resides. The spot will become marked on your map.

Make a pit stop back in Bakbattahl and stock up with a lot of healing items and be sure to grab your Camping Kit. I would also highly recommend you switch vocations to a class that excels in targeting weak points, such as Fighter, Thief, Mystic Spearhand, or Archer. When you see the dragon we are hunting, you will understand why.

I highly recommend setting a Postcrystal in Bakbattahl and grabbing a Ferrystone before setting out. This will let you teleport right back to the city upon finishing this boss battle.

When you are ready to set out, exit Bakbattahl headed west, then immediately go south at the split in the road. By now we know more or less what to expect out of the Battahl region, but just the same keep your eye out for hordes of enemies, especially the poisonous Saurians and Harpies. And of course, keep your eye on the sky in case the Griffin gets any funny ideas.

Right around the halfway point between Bakbattahl and the Tower you will come to a three-way split in the road. Check your map quick and you will see the northern road leads directly to the Tower, so make sure you stay on the correct one. As you approach the base of the tower an NPC named Marthe will stop you and warn you against proceeding. Guess we must be in the right place. Cross the nearby bridge to proceed.

Welcome to the Wyrmsblood Forest. You will notice the terrain is a little different here, and that the trail is basically entirely uphill from this point. Thankfully there are no real surprises along the way, just more of the same Battahli enemies we have seen up to this point.

Near the bottom of the forest an NPC will stop and tell you of a nearby shrine, the Caliginous Depths, that is guarded by a monster. Check your map and you will see a fork in the road that leads to a dead end. If you want to see the shrine, follow that road to the end. You will encounter a Medusa inside who drops the valuable Medusan Spellbow weapon.

Right around this same spot you can find a goblin cave called the Sal'Battahl Cavern. There is no trail on the map so you will have to just keep an eye out for the cave opening in the brush. This cave contains no large monster, but does have some good items like an Allheal Elixir and the Crimson Teeth daggers.

The main concern, especially as you ascend the mountainside, is getting pushed off the ledge and falling to your death. Don’t stand too close to any edges, and keep an eye out for swooping harpies. They love to pick you up and drop you from perilous heights.

There are also some enemies that can push boulders off the higher cliffs and onto unsuspecting Arisen walking the path below. These can pack quite a bunch if they catch you off guard, so be ready to sidestep them as they come rolling down.

About halfway up you will encounter an Ogre. These guys are similar to Cyclops but much faster. They love running and leaping around the battlefield, and will occasionally even leap up onto walls so they can do a flying slam attack. Their attacks also pack quite the punch, so NEVER stand with your back to the cliff’s edge or else you might just find yourself getting flung over the side.

Much like the Cyclops, your best bet here is just to avoid taking him on in ground combat, and instead climbing up his back and mercilessly attacking him in the back of the head. This deals a lot of damage, can lead to a stagger, and keeps you safe from his various ground slam attacks.

If you annoy him too much he will sometimes leap into the air, then purposely fall on his back to try and squish you. If you see him getting ready to jump its better to just jump off, wait, then climb back on when he gets distracted again.

Keep striking his head until you get a knockdown, then unleash your full combo directly to his face. This should be enough to secure the kill. Heal up, and proceed up the path toward the tower.

Just up the hill from the Ogre is a small landing where you will be attacked by a large group of harpies. I recommend dealing with all of them in this spacious area rather than running past and letting them catch you on the thinner part of the path. Once the harpies are dead go up the next set of stairs and be sure to grab the Golden Trove Beetle off the tree to the right.

Carefully cross the bridge and make your way to the next bend in the path where you will encounter a Riftstone. This is your last chance before we reach the Tower to change your party or hire higher level pawns. Make sure to loot the chest behind the Riftstone as well to get Salubrious Draught x3.

Ahead is the final stretch of road before we reach the top. At the end you will walk up some stairs onto a large platform where you will find a campsite. Make sure to rest here and cook whatever high quality meat you have on hand. You’re gonna want the stat boosts for this upcoming boss fight.

There is also an NPC here, Sigurd, the Mystic Spearhand vocation master. He offers to help slay the dragon, and joins your party temporarily. When you are ready to proceed, go up the stairs and cross the dilapidated bridge to enter the bottom floor of the tower. A short cutscene will trigger, showing you the lesser-drake fighting harpies on top of the tower.

Eventually we will make our way to the top to take on the drake, but first let's spend a little time exploring this tower. Of course, the tower is guarded by goblins, so be ready to deal with them as you make your way between the floors. Once the area is clear make your way to the south side of the first floor where there is a treasure chest containing multiple Roborant hidden behind some rubble. On the other side of this rubble you can find a Sand-Patterned Camping Kit and a bunch of rotten food.

Next, look for a crumbling wall in the middle backside of the first floor, behind some fallen pillars. Attack this wall to break it open and you will reveal a staircase to the lower level.

Thoroughly explore this floor and make sure to check all the rooms. You should be able to find four chests in total containing: the Frigid Finger, a Ferrystone, a Panacea x2, and about 16,000 gold.

Find the stairs on the back side of this room and ascend to the second floor. More goblins, more items to find. At the top of the stairs you will notice an odd looking will straight ahead. Smash through it to find a chest on the other side with the Anathema archistaff inside.

Also be sure to explore the hall to the left of this cracked wall, where you can find a Wyrmslife Crystal on the ground.

Step out onto the open air section of this floor and you will see a chest near the edge to your right. Inside is the Dragon’s Faith shield. Turn around and walk to the other side to find the stairs leading up to the next floor.

On the north side of this floor you will see another cracked wall. Break through to find a chest on the other side containing a Wakestone Shard.

Ascend the final set of stairs to reach the top floor of the tower. Turn around immediately at the top and you will see a chest behind you that contains a Threshing Blaze and 2650 gold.

Lesser Drake Boss Guide

When you are ready to fight the drake, stop out onto the open air part of the floor and you will hear it roar before it slams down on top of you. Immediately you will notice this dragon looks a little different from the ones we have seen previously, its body is covered in large boils.

You may remember I said to switch to a vocation that excels in targeting weak points, and this is why. Rather than being able to target one specific weak point, this dragon requires you to attack one of the boils until it bursts, then reposition to attack another one.

The danger zones in this fight are in front of the dragon and beneath the dragon. It will do fire breath attacks both directly ahead and side to side, and anytime it flies up in the air expect it to come slamming down a few seconds later.

The dragon can also spill acid out of the hole in its chest which deals damage over time if you are caught in it. For some reason this acid can even hit you when you are latched onto the dragon’s side, so it's best to just get away completely if you can.

Whenever he lifts one or both of his front claws he is about to do a claw sweep or slam on the area in front of him. Stay back when you see these coming, as sometimes he will go into a little rage resulting in him whipping his tail around in a 360 as well. If you are the Fighter class you can put up your shield and try to wait it out.

Your strategy should be to stand off to the side, wait for an opening to grab on, then attack a single boil until it bursts. Once it does, jump off and pick a new target to focus on. If you are an archer the task becomes even simpler, just might take a bit longer.

If you plan to attack the boils on the dragon's head and face, make sure you are not in close proximity to the mouth. Even if you are off to the side a little bit it is still possible to get caught in the fire breath and knocked off. Also, just don't stay attached too long or the dragon can fling you off the tower to your death.

In general, you absolutely never want to stand with your back to the ledge. In fact, avoid the ledges altogether. It is too easy to get knocked off by a sweeping attack or pushed out by the dragon’s large body. If you can try to keep your pawns away as well by using the “To me!” command.

You may also notice some crumbling pillars scattered around the battlefield. You can actually make these fall down by attacking the base of them, dealing damage to the dragon if you can catch him in the collapse. However, you can also catch yourself and your pawns in the collapse, so I personally just avoided using them altogether.

If you manage to break all the boils at the same time, the dragon will fall to the ground and you can freely attack his underside and deal massive damage. As soon as this happens I recommend using a Savagery Extract to boost your damage, if you have one. However, if you don't burst them all quickly enough the dragon will eventually replenish them all.

With all of this in mind, this fight just becomes a battle of patience and consistency. Play carefully and remember slow and steady wins the boss battle. Sigurd is a major help here if he can get an opening he will deal massive chunks of damage at random.

Once the dragon is defeated be sure to loot its body immediately to collect your 10 Wyrmslife Crystals, as well as the powerful Dead Ringer weapon for the Mystic Spearhand class. If you didn’t already also make sure to grab the one other Wyrmslife Crystal that is sitting on the platform.

With the dragon dead we can also reach this Seeker's Token on top of the pillars in the boss arena. Make your way to the top of the stairs, climb onto the top of the pillar, and walk over to the far end to find it.

Also make sure you go up the stairs to the top platform where there is a chest with a set of spellbooks. Climb the rubble behind this chest. From this vantage you can also see a Seeker’s Token on the tower wall. Carefully drop down to the ledge below you then hop the gap to reach it.

Note: we currently believe that turning in the Wyrmslife Crystals to Ambrosius triggers some timed end game events. If you want to take your time completing and exploring the world avoid turning in this quest for now. We will update this page as more information becomes available.

When you are ready to progress into the end game, deliver the 15 Wyrmslife Crystals to Ambrosius. He will ask you to check back in a day or so, so go pass the time at the inn or on a bench. Return to his office and a short cutscene will trigger where Ambrosius tries to run off with the godsway, but is stopped by the Pathfinder. Ambrosius hands over the godsway and asks you to deliver it to Phaseus for him. This completes the quest, earning you 35,000 gold, 6000 xp, a Wakestone, and the Empowered Godsbane Blade.

Note: by completing this quest you have triggered the endgame events. From this point on Phaseus will slowly make his way towards Moonglint Tower at the far southeast corner of the map. You can pursue him immediately if you like, or ignore him and continue exploring the world.

If you choose to ignore the events, you will get occasional updates on his progress. By doing this you can actually miss out on the entire next main story quest, The Guardian Gigantus, and skip straight to the final quest, Legacy. This will take a large number of in game days to happen.
