If you’re looking for a permanent hair removal solution, you’ve come to the right place. Forget shaving, forget waxing, and definitely forget tweezers and messy creams — you want to focus on laser hair removal.

Laser hair removal is a highly effective method for getting rid of unwanted hair, and it has the advantage of being permanent so you don’t have to continue your removal efforts over and over again.

At Laser Bar and Spa in New York City, our expert team has been using the state-of-the-art Cynosure laser system to great effect. We get a lot of questions about how it works and for whom it works well, so here’s some information about the entire process.

How does laser hair removal work?

Laser hair removal works exactly like it sounds. A high-tech laser shoots into your skin, where it targets hair follicles growing beneath the surface of the skin. The hair follicle absorbs the light energy of the laser, which ends up destroying the follicle so that it can no longer produce hair.

The process is not painful, and it’s over relatively quickly. The laser hair removal treatment is effective in several areas of the body, including your legs and arms, chest and back, underarms, bikini area, and chin and upper lip.

Multiple treatments are required (usually between 6-12, depending on the area you’re targeting) because the laser removal is most effective when the follicle is in the actively growing stage, and not all of your follicles reach the same stage of growth at the same time.

Does the process work for all skin types?

The laser is attracted to the melanin, or color, in your hair follicles, so the treatment works best on an individual with dark, coarse hair and pale skin — the contrast helps the laser better target the hair follicles.

That said, the Cynosure laser works well on all skin colors and types and almost every type of hair. The one exception is fine, blond hair that doesn’t have any melanin, so it can’t be targeted by the laser.

You should also avoid laser hair removal for areas close to your eyes. Although the laser is safe and protection is provided, you should avoid any possible risk of damage to your eyes from the laser.

If you’re ready to explore the possibility of laser hair removal to quickly and easily remove your unwanted body hair, just call the Laser Bar and Spa to set up your appointment. We’ll have your skin as smooth as silk before you know it.
