With all the variety among Vocations in Dragon’s Dogma 2, a tier list can help players find the best one for them.

10 Trickster: Doesn't Do Damage

Has No Damage Weapon Skills

Dragon's Dogma 2: Highest Damage Skill For Each Vocation (2)

The Trickster Vocation in Dragon's Dogma 2 is in a bit of a weird place. It functions kind of like a tank would in an MMO, but in the single-player experience that is Dragon's Dogma 2. Its Weapon Skills all offer interesting choices and effects, but none of them do any damage to enemies because the Vocation is designed around a completely different style of game play.

Trickster is an interesting idea, but its lack of damaging abilities or skills mean that many players would find it more suited for a support Pawn - except it's unique to the Arisen.

9 Mage: High Levin

Lightning Strikes Once, Twice, Five Times...

Dragon's Dogma 2: Highest Damage Skill For Each Vocation (3)
  • Base skill: Levin
  • Requires: Mage Vocation rank 4, 1,000 Discipline

The Mage Vocation in Dragon's Dogma 2 is a perfect support vocation, excellent when used with a dedicated support Pawn. But it does have some damaging weapon skills, some of which are very good.

High Levin is the upgraded form of the basic Levin attack and unleashes a flurry of lightning bolts upon enemies - with more to be delivered at the cost of additional stamina. It doesn't take too long to cast, and it's got good damage, so it makes sense to stick on an otherwise supportive Mage Pawn.

8 Fighter: Riotous Fury

Best DPS option for Fighters

Dragon's Dogma 2: Highest Damage Skill For Each Vocation (4)
  • Base skill: None
  • Requires: Soldier's Code Master Skill item

Fighters as a Vocation aren't necessarily designed around being the best physical DPS, since their toolkit is better suited to crowd control and a more defensive play style. That being said, Fighters do have a variety of options for dealing damage and perhaps the best one is Riotous Fury.

Riotous Fury is the Fighter Master skill, usable by both Pawns and Arisen. It unleashes a flurry of powerful hits against an enemy at the cost of a lot of Stamina, but as there are quite a lot of ways to reduce Stamina costs and to improve or restore Stamina, that's not so bad for such a high damage skill.

7 Archer: Tempest Shot

Best consistent DPS

Dragon's Dogma 2: Highest Damage Skill For Each Vocation (5)
  • Base skill: Torrent Shot
  • Requires: Archer Vocation level 7, 2,000 Discipline

Tempest Shot offers the best consistent DPS for Archer Pawns or Arisen in Dragon's Dogma 2. Tempest Shot isn't an especially flashy weapon skill, but it doesn't need to be, thanks to its excellent utility and ease of use. The base skill releases a flurry of arrows which get faster the longer the skill goes on. This is great on its own, but its upgrade to Tempest Shot unleashes even more arrows.

Tempest Shot is a great Weapon Skill for Archers, and even though it locks movement while it's being used, it offers such a massive amount of damage that that doesn't matter. Especially not if there's a Fighter to draw enemy attention elsewhere.

6 Warrior: Arc of Might

Massive Damage at Massive Cost

Dragon's Dogma 2: Highest Damage Skill For Each Vocation (6)
  • Base skill: None
  • Requires: Warrior Master Skill Item, Champion's Fable

The Warrior Vocation is one of only two advanced Vocations available to Pawns, and it's a much more offensively oriented variant of the Fighter - much like its counterpart, Sorcerer, which is an offensive Mage. So the Warrior Vocation offers a real spread of great abilities, most of which deal large amounts of damage.

But the Warrior Master skill Arc of Might is a fantastic choice that offers massive amounts of damage at the cost of all the Warrior's Stamina. Still, it's a great choice in many a battle, especially thanks to fast Stamina regeneration from Mage skills or consumables.

5 Thief: Skull Splitter

A Great Skill That Emphasizes Speed

  • Base skill: Helm Splitter
  • Requires: Thief Vocation rank 5, 1,300 Discipline

The Thief Vocation in Dragon's Dogma 2 is a great Vocation for players looking to deal fast damage with agile characters. Thieves use double daggers to deal damage, and the best damaging skill for Thieves is Skull Splitter. This skill can be used while in mid-air, so it pairs well with a Fighter or Warrior's ability to launch allies, and unleashes a flurry of cuts onto an enemy.

As an upgraded form of the ability, Skull Splitter lets the user unleash an even larger number of fast-paced cuts to an enemy, making perfect use of the Thief Vocation's agility to deal massive amounts of damage.

4 Warfarer: Augural Flare

Can Choose Any Non-Maister Skill

Dragon's Dogma 2: Highest Damage Skill For Each Vocation (8)
  • Base skill: Prescient Flare
  • Requires: Sorcerer Vocation rank 8, an equipped Archistaff, 2,500 Discipline

arfarers in Dragon's Dogma 2 are a flexible, varied Vocation which can essentially be built however the player wants. Warfarers can use any weapon type, wear any armor, and use any non-Maister skill from any other Vocation. This gives Warfarers a real versatility which can't be gained by any of the other Vocations.

So really, Warfarers can choose from any of the major abilities from the other classes to do massive damage, but a really good pick is Augural Flare from the Sorcerer toolkit. Augural Flare works really well in the hands of a player, and even though the additional hits cost stamina, players get lots of options for increasing stamina or reducing stamina costs, so Augural Flare arguably comes out on top.

3 Sorcerer: Augural Flare

Best DPS for Sorcerer

Dragon's Dogma 2: Highest Damage Skill For Each Vocation (9)
  • Base skill: Prescient Flare
  • Requires: Sorcerer Vocation rank 8, 2,500 Discipline

Augural Flare is a great choice for the Sorcerer. The Sorcerer's Maister Skill, Meteoron, is a fantastic ability capable of dealing massive damage, but Augural Flare offers the best DPS potential thanks to its other advantages. Unlike Meteoron, Augural Flare is affected by Quickspell and allows the Sorcerer to move while incanting.

Dragon's Dogma 2: Best Archistaves, Ranked

Archistaves are the weapon of choice for the Sorcerer vocation in Dragon's Dogma 2, and these are the best Archistaves in the game.

This is big on its own, but Augural Flare lets the Sorcerer hit many, many times with large amounts of damage. The ability attaches an orb to the enemy which, when attacked, eventually explodes. But additional hits of the orb result in additional, stronger, explosions - and the upgrade to Augural Flare increases the number of possible explosions. A great choice of damaging ability for both Pawns and Arisen, and an easy pick out of Sorcerer's many great weapon skills.

2 Mystic Spearhand: Wild Furie

Highest DPS skill for Mystic Spearhand

Dragon's Dogma 2: Highest Damage Skill For Each Vocation (11)

Base skill: None

Requires: Mystic Spearhand Vocation Master Skill Item, Paladin's Enigmata

Mystic Spearhand is one of the stand-out Vocations in Dragon's Dogma 2, offering players a good mixture of Magick and Physical skills and damage and uses the unique Duospear weapon. Mystic Spearhand has a dynamic and fast play-style, and one of the best weapon abilities for Mystic Spearhand is Wild Furie.

This attack creates an image of the Arisen which attacks multiple times as the Arisen does, dealing massive amounts of damage to any enemy - including some big bosses.

1 Magick Archer: Martyr's Bolt

Best DPS Weapon Skill In Game

Dragon's Dogma 2: Highest Damage Skill For Each Vocation (12)
  • Base skill: None
  • Requires: Mystic Archer Vocation Master Skill Item, Spellbow's Paradox

The Magick Archer is a fantastic advanced Vocation in Dragon's Dogma 2 available only for the Arisen. It comes with a load of great upgrades compared with the Archer, including Magick damage and some great new skills.

What is the best class for solo in Dragon's Dogma 2? ›

While you could probably say the same of most Dragon's Dogma 2 classes, I feel like the Magick Archer will lend itself to entertaining pawn-less playthroughs, both because it is fairly flexible and because it has obvious limitations - fewer melee-range skills or defensive moves - that are satisfying to work around.

What is the best vocation to start in DD2? ›

Overall, my favorite is Thief, but Magick Archer and Sorcerer also break the game. Spearhand breaks the game defensively. Thief has third best damage, second best tankiness, probably best mobility, quite good flexibility, and has no real weak points.

Does starting vocation matter in DD2? ›

This may sound cliché, but the best starting vocation in Dragon's Dogma 2 really does depend on which play style you want to use, as they all specialize in different areas of combat that are equally useful, more often than not.

What is the best pawn trait in Dragon's Dogma 2? ›

In terms of the best pawn inclinations and specializations in Dragon's Dogma 2, few can beat the Kindhearted Chirurgeon combo: A pawn with the Kindhearted inclination prioritizes supporting allies in need. If someone is dazed or in need of healing, you can be sure that this pawn will offer aid.

What is the best inclination for pawns in Dragon's Dogma 2? ›

Kindhearted works for Sorcerers, but only if you have no other choice. Calm is a much better option, one that will help your Pawn keep themselves safe and, ideally, choose spells that target enemy weaknesses more often. You could opt for Simple as well, if you need to.

What is the best party composition in Dragon's Dogma 2? ›

Arisen (Mystic Spearhand) & Pawns (Thief, Fighter, & Mage)

This party is the best party that you can have in the game and is one you can get relatively early, too. It is a balanced party, but it also allows for a massive amount of damage to enemies, making the party an unstoppable force.

What vocation should your main pawn be Dragon's Dogma 2? ›

Assigning your main Pawn the Mage vocation is the best choice you can make. Mages are well-rounded and powerful, wielding both offensive and restorative spells. If you plan on taking damage in combat, a Mage Pawn can heal you. Mages lack offense when they just start out, but elemental control cannot be underestimated.
