The only difference between an“online”course and a“remote”course is that the“remote”course has specified meeting times while“online”courses do not. Students are expected to attend and participate in the“remote”course just as they would if the course were offered in a lecture hall at a set time.

Courses offered online (designated asONLN) have no specified meeting times and students are expected to progress through the course at their own pace. You may also see these courses referred to asasynchronousin theNotes/Additional Feescolumn of theYork Courses Websitetimetable listings: this simply means that the course meeting does not have a specified meeting time and students can review the meeting content when it is most convenient for them. Students in an asynchronous course are still expected to follow common times/deadlines for submitting assignments, completing tests, etc.

Courses offeredremotely(designated asREMT) are also offered online but have specified meeting times as a course normally would if it were offered in-person, for example, in a lecture hall. You may also see these courses referred to assynchronousin theNotes/Additional Feescolumn of theYork Courses Websitetimetable listings: this simply means that students have a specified meeting time and engage with the instructor and each other in the curriculum at the same time.
