How soon will I see the results from Laser Hair Removal?

You will notice an improvement within the first few weeks after your first treatment. Whilst you may still see hair regrowth, you should notice that hair is starting to grow back slower than before.

The results of Laser Hair Removal treatment will continue to improve over time as you complete your recommended course of treatment which is usually 6-8 treatments spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart.

Results will vary from patient to patient. The colour and thickness of your hair, the area treated, the type of laser used, and the colour of your skin will all affect the results.

Is laser hair removal suitable for dark or asian skin?

Laser Hair Removal is an ideal option for those looking for a semi-permanent reduction in hair growth.

Previously, laser hair removal on dark or Asian skin has been difficult as dark or Asian skin often has more melanin which makes it more prone to burning and pigmentation.

Technology has since improved and here at The Private Clinic, we have a team of expert laser therapists who are experienced in treating all skin types including Asian, Arabic and ethnic skin types.

We use Nd-Yag laser machines to perform our laser hair removal treatments. The YAG laser wavelength goes deeper into the skin than other laser types which means it bypasses the melanin in your skin making it the safest option for dark skin.

All patients are required to have a free patch test before going ahead with treatment, even if they have been treated successfully elsewhere before.

Find out more about treating Asian skin here.

How does Laser Hair Removal treatment work?

Laser hair removal treatment works by using light energy to heat up the hair follicles in the skin and when enough heat is produced, the follicle is destroyed preventing re-growth of the hair. It is a very safe and effective process, with many people seeing between 80-90% less hair growth after a course.

Can I have laser hair removal with a sun tan?

If you have got a tan or your skin has reacted to something then you must let your practitioner know as it can increase your risks of adverse side effects such as pigmentation changes.

At The Private Clinic, we do not perform any laser treatments on tanned skin. Sun exposure should be avoided whilst you are having laser treatments.

We also advise that you do not use any type of fake tan, spray tan or gradual tanning cream before your laser hair removal session.

Your laser specialists will be able to discuss this in more detail and analyse your skin at your consultation.

Is laser hair removal safe?

Adverse reactions are very rare. In fact laser hair removal is a very safe procedure when carried out by professionals with years of experience in this field. We use the most modern technologies, and we are registered with the Care Quality Commission, ensuring that we continue to comply with the highest industry standards.

How long does the treatment take?

This will depend on the size of the area to be treated, but may be as little as 10 to 15 minutes to remove small amounts of fine hair on the upper lip. Most areas will need about 6 sessions for optimum results. We will be able to give you a clear idea of how many sessions you will need after your consultation.

Does Laser Hair Removal treatment hurt?

Our laser systems feature innovative cooling elements to ensure the procedure is as comfortable as possible. Pain levels will vary from patient to patient and can also depend on the thickness of the skin in the area being treated.

Patients may experience slight discomfort during treatment and this is often described as a feeling similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin. The majority of patients manage to undergo treatment without too much discomfort, and the impressive results far outweigh any negatives.

Some areas of skin are more sensitive than others such as the armpits and bikini line in comparison to the arms and legs.

There is often some discomfort afterlaserhair removal treatment, but this is only a short-term symptom
