Cut out thick slices from a baked egg loaf and fry the keto bread slice in butter in a skillet. This creates a crisp, golden brown crust on the sides of the bread. The result is french toast that’s only 2.8 grams net carbs per slice! Now all you need is to pour on the sugar free maple syrup and maybe add a dollop of whipped cream. It’s an iconic low carb breakfast that will surely make your morning brighter and your family happy. Although I can’t guarantee they will stay that way!

Another fun option for the kids is to make French toast sticks. Cut into thinner slices and dip in syrup. The kids will take joy in playing with their food with not having to use a fork. These keto french toast sticks make a fun on-the-go breakfast too. Just bring the wet wipes if the sticky syrup gets on your fingers!

What makes this French Toast keto?

  • Low carb ingredients – Instead of using traditional slices of bread or texas toast, this keto french toast recipe starts with making simple quick bread using keto ingredients like coconut flour, cream cheese, egg and butter. After it’s baked, the keto bread is sliced and fried in a buttered skillet similar to traditional french toast.
  • Gluten free – Many people on a keto diet are trying to avoid gluten. So using store bought sliced keto bread is usually not an option if you are gluten-free. This recipe is gluten free since no wheat flours are used.
  • Less than 3 carbs – Each keto french toast slice is only 2.8 grams net carbs.

Keto bread becomes keto French toast

This low carb recipe uses an egg loaf made from coconut flour to make our French toast; however, now that more and more manufacturers are making keto bread and selling them in the stores, you might be able to make your French toast with these breads.

This would be an easy way if you are looking at how to make keto French toast. Just be careful since many commercially made keto bread contain gluten, so if staying gluten-free is important to you then stick with use my gluten-free egg loaf recipe.

Our keto French toast egg loaf doesn’t contain any nuts and is made with coconut flour instead of almond flour. If you are one that has a nut allergy this is one breakfast recipe you can enjoy.

Our French toast loaf is made with lots of eggs of course to help give volume, but don’t worry, it shouldn’t taste like egg or an omelet. The cream cheese in this keto bread recipe helps to cut out that eggy flavor from the low carb bread.

    Keto friendly syrups

If you are looking for the best keto syrup to go with your keto French toast, I highly, highly recommend ChocZero!!

They have maple syrup, maple pecan, and maple vanilla (my fav), plus a whole bunch of other flavors. All of their keto syrups are sugar free and sugar alcohol free. There are other sugar free maple syrups you can pick up, some even available in your grocery store, but this syrup is thick and pours like real maple syrup.

Toppings for your keto French toast

    • Whipped cream
    • Sugar free chocolate chips
    • Strawberries
    • Blackberries
    • Blueberries
    • Raspberries
    • Cinnamon
    • Sugar free maple syrup
    • Butter
    • Powdered erythritol or other powdered sweetener

    Storing keto French toast

The best way to store your French toast is to keep it in the refrigerator, wrapped in plastic wrap or an air tight container. It will keep in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

To reheat, you can heat up your French toast slice for a minute in the microwave or fry it again in a skillet with butter on the stovetop.

For freezer storage, store the egg loaf wrapped in plastic wrap and store in a freezer safe bag for up to 3 months. To freeze individual slices of french toast, flash freeze the french toast slices on a plate in the freezer. Once frozen, pack in a freezer safe bag and store for up to 3 months.

Feeding a crowd or need to meal prep?

If you are serving a crowd, you can make up multiple egg loaves ahead of time and then fry up the keto toast in the skillet the morning you want to serve them. You’re guests will love this refreshing take rather than a breakfast casserole.

    1. Have this in the oven and was reviewing my steps because my batter was way more runny than yours (I blended ingredients in a blender). I noticed in the video you stated 1/4 cup coconut flour, but the written instructions state 1/3 cup of coconut flour, which is what I used. Even then, batter consistency was different. I am hoping this still turns out well. Please advise if it is 1/3 or 1/4 cup of flour.

      Reply

      1. I have done both for this recipe. The batter will thicken as the coconut flour absorbs some of the liquid.
