Laser Hair Removal Regulations in Australia - Essential Beauty Franchising (2024)

In 2015 the Australian Government began looking at regulating lasers throughout Australia. Previously, in Western Australia, only doctors were able to operate a laser.

Let’s take a look state by state regulations in 2021:

In Western Australia, the operator must undertake laser training and complete practical training. Salons are also required to hold a laser license.

In Queensland, the person requires a licence (as part of a laser safety course) and the business requires a license also, to offer laser treatments, in addition to the overseeing doctor. For the rest of Australia, no regulation exists.

In South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales, there are no regulations as to who can operate a laser.

So where is it all heading?

We believe regulation of lasers on a national level will eventually commence due to the amount of new players in this market.

So what will this mean?

Tighter regulations will bring tighter control and this will mean that smaller, rogue operators who discount to get market share, will eventually diminish in numbers.

Other more sophisticated operations will of course, comply and thrive.

So when considering partnering with a Laser Hair Removal franchise, choose one that has been in business for a long time with a reputation to uphold and protect.

In this way you’ll achieve a better outcome, whilst looking after your hard earned investment and more importantly the health of your clients.
