Singed Hair, That’s Why You Shave before Laser Hair Removal (1)

Do you know how to prep for laser hair removal? There isn’t too much that goes into it, but there is one item that tends to confuse people.

You need to shave before your LHR treatment.

We know what you’re thinking; why do I need to shave when the whole point is to get my hair lasered off? Well, there is a pretty good reason.

Lasers Get Really Hot

While the lasers used in LHR are safe and shouldn’t burn your skin (assuming they are used by a skilled and trained technician), they are very hot. This is essential because that’s how they send the hair follicles into a dormant state.

However, this level of heat and hair do not go together. While the hair beneath the skin won’t cause issues, any that rests above it will get singed. This can result in your skin feeling burned as the hair against it gets too hot and it can also produce that unpleasant burnt hair smell.

On top of this, laser hair removal doesn’t get rid of your hair right away. It takes time for the hair to work its way to the surface and fall out. And not all hairs are in their active state at the same time, and lasers only impact active follicles. So you’re still going to be shaving for a while anyhow.

So, be sure to shave before laser hair removal. For more information on how to prep or to schedule your LHR session, give us a call at 813-877-8067 or fill out our contact form.
