Laser treatments are becoming increasingly popular. The team at Cosmeditech explains how to endure return on investment and run a profitable laser business

Profit FROM LASER (1)

You may have considered introducing laser treatments to your business in the past but perhaps felt that the cost was prohibitive or felt daunted by the array of devices on the market with every supplier claiming to have the “best technology”.

You may have visited a trade show and left more confused than before so decided to put plans on hold. We explore the key factors to consider before you expand into laser treatments…

Market potential

There is no doubt the aesthetic treatment market continues to grow rapidly with annual growth rates of 15-20% predicted from 2022-2030. Treatments such as laser hair removal and tattoo removal are expanding as technology develops and prices grow more affordable.

For example, 80% of females and an increasing percentage of males use some form of hair removal and laser is fast becoming the preferred choice as it offers more permanent, comfortable and affordable treatment.

For many clinics, laser hair removal is the largest revenue generator by some way. With more people having tattoos, inevitably many will want them removed or changed. The market for laser tattoo removal is growing at over 19% per annum. Laser treatments can generate between £200 and £400 per hour so can be transformational to a salon or clinic’s revenue and profits.

Return on Investment

Laser technology can involve a significant investment, perhaps the largest a salon will make. It is therefore important to consider which treatments offer the best return. For most, the answer is laser hair removal and the following are key factors to consider.

Power: a laser needs sufficient power to deliver energy to the base of the follicle to destroy it permanently. A high power laser will allow the use of a large spot size without compromising energy density (the amount of energy per cm2) and will enable fast treatment time which in turn maximises revenue per hour.

Pulse duration: a very important factor in achieving best results is how fast each pulse can be delivered into the skin. The faster the delivery, or shorter the pulse duration, the more energy is delivered down the follicle. Short pulse duration can only be achieved with a high-power laser.

Wavelength: The most effective wavelengths are 755nm and 808nm, achieving maximum absorption in the melanin in the follicle. 755nm is suitable for lighter skin types whereas 808nm can treat all skin types so is the most popular. Offering three wavelengths at once has no advantage and compromises risk and efficacy.

Cooling: delivering high power into the skin requires very efficient skin contact cooling to ensure safety and maximise client comfort.

Eneka Pro, recently introduced by Cosmeditech, offers the most powerful and fastest diode laser in the market.

With up to 5000watts, it is twice as powerful as most leading brands and up to 10 times more powerful than some low-spec devices. With its advanced cooling technology, treatment is comfortable while achieving results on all skin types. With over 20 years’ experience, Cosmeditech supports customers with comprehensive training and marketing to ensure success.
